For you guys out there that run all terrain tires year round for running in the snow and ice in the winter time, what tires do ya run on your truck?? I am going to buy a set of 285/75/R16 for my truck and would like some feedback from you guy's. Thanks for any help out there.
When I purchased my first SD in 2004, I was curious to see how it was going to handle in the snow vs. my previous F-150.
I must say that the standard 265 BFG ATs that came on my SD don't impress me in the snow and ice at all. Compared to the standard Good Year Wrangler ATs that came on the F-150.
I found my self spinning much more than I anticipated last winter with the BFGs where previously, I would just dig in and go on the Good Years.
I have not seen a similar sized replacement of that tire from Good Year, but if they had one, I would recommend it.

thats interesting, i have never heard of an sd coming from the factory with bfg tires?
BFG's suck IMO, they always vibrate and ball up in mud, yokahoma geolanders are nice and they last a while, the mud traction is awesome for an AT. I did not get a chance to try them in snow but the factory firestones were flat out scary and the BFG's were not better.
Do a search on the net for Les Schwab. They make one called the TXR. A very good all-around tire. Most of their locations are on the West coast. Maybe they'll ship ya a set. That's what I'm putting on mine.
And I'd guess I see a bit more mud, snow, ice, and gravel here than you do in Houston.
Well the ice and snow part of my question is because I drive to Crested Butte Co. every year and encounter more snow and ice than anyone wants. Lots of mud and sand to play in down here though.
Crested Butte, I hear it's purty place. The TXR would be perfect based on my experiences with it. When hunting in the snow and pulling a fiver, I have yet needed to put the chains on.

you are entitled to your opinion, but the question was "what do you run on your truck". i have run BFG's on my last two trucks and have had nothing but good things to say about them. buy saying another persons reccomendation suck, only ****es that other person off
You seam like a cry baby! Someone things my tires suck WANNNN! It's a tire and if you do a search you will see I have given the same oppinion many times, just because you took it personaly make no difference to me.
Motown, despite Daimon1054's negative attitude, he does have a point about factory Firestone Steeltex tires being scary. I would always slide around in the snow with them. And they were not much better in the rain. I now have 285 Goodyear Wrangler ATS tires which have much better traction. I am happy with them.
