I was just thinking about the term SUV that gets used a lot, and do you think it accurately describes the vehicles we are referring to?
For example an Expedition, yes very much a Utility vehicle, but Sporty, I think not. Sport to me means something that is low to the ground, reasonably quick, and a blast to drive through corners. These cars aren't usually many of these things, and IMO they shouldn't be either, they are built for a purpose. While many "SUV's" can destroy "sports cars" from the lights, the last Explorer I drove (an 03 year) wasn't exactly fun to hurl through corners at ridiculous speed... Do you think SUV describes these vehicles well?
Granted - the name may not fit....
however....
it's the name "they" gave it and it's the one that defines it - so we use it
I drive a 4x4 SUV - so I'm not sure how to register my vote in your poll
sports= activitys that you could not perform in a mini-van including but not limited to off roading, hauling the 4 wheelers out into the sand dunes, pulling the boat OUT of the ramp, and other things that dont include 8 kids in soccer uniforms.

You make some very good points, why I set up this thread

Sorry should have clarified the names better.
If you think your vehicle should be called an SUV, vote SUV
If you drive an SUV, but you think it shouldn't be called an SUV, vote 4x4
If you drive a Truck, vote Truck
If you couldn't care, vote the last option
While I wouldn't call my Explorer a sports car, I think it handles corners very nicely (and I am an owner of a Porsche 914). I haven't driven any new SUVs, but for a Utility Vehicle, I think it is rather "sporty". Not that I care what the name is.
