I was looking to buy a 1988 Bronco and I was wondering if the front clips are interchangeable between the 1987 and 1995. I have a friend that is willing to part with his.
87-91 and 92-96 were different front ends. for the swap u will need the cowl, hood, fenders, rad. support, headlights, grill and bumper...i know im missing something but u get the idea...but yes, they are interchangeable.
My friend takes his bronco off road all the time so it will be freshly beat up by the time I get the donor part to take care of my bronco. He said that when he was done I could take what I need.
others have commented... but the key to this swap old to new, and new to old, is the radiator support and the two side rails under the fender (wheel well supports). The are sculpted slightly differently, but enough that you can't make all the pieces fit without the correct supports underneath.
What is neat, is you can do the entire swap, without cutting or welding, its all bolts. Millions of them, but its just bolts.
Swapping a 97+ clip will require cutting and welding. I have a "mint" Lincoln Navigator front clip in storage that eventually will be cut, ground, welded and hammerformed to fit the cab contours on my 93 F350.
Being insane, I will have a twin-turbo 500cid Lincoln Navigator crewcab longbed.
Anyway, I hope I answered your questions. Do know that swapping the supports, fenders, lights, cowling, radiator support is probably an entire weekend project, if you're doing it by yourself. Also, the front body mounts are underneath the radiator support, so support the cab underneath the firewall BEFORE loosening up the radiator support. It will never go back together otherwise, as it will pinch and thats that (until you jack up the cab, of course).
