Did I get Shafted?
I took my '95 Ford Explorer into the shop because I had a leaking head gasket. It was leaking through a water jacket toward the outside of the head straight out the side. Ford replaced the gaskets and machined the head and whatever else they do to the valves. Okay, I get it back and it doesn't have the power it used to but that's not the real problem. 2500 miles later I notice that I'm 2.5 quarts low on oil! Yeap, all of a sudden I'm burning a quart of oil every thousand miles. Prior to the head work, I wasn't burning any noticeable amount, maybe 1/3 a quart every 4 thousand miles. So what happend? Did the head work cause this problem? Did they do something wrong? There is no oil leaking onto my garage floor so I believe it must be burning it, there is some residue at the rear bumper. Any suggestions?
