'97 model 98 CHECK ENGINE LIGHT
I've '97 High Class 4l SOHC with 180000 km.By 60.000 i was change my first cam tensioner, by 120.000 the second
)) but i see its happend oft in this car.Now I've another problem. When I start the motor (sometimes) my RPM goes to 1000 RPM then goes down und then up , sometimes , when I put the gear motor stops..... My CHECK ENGINE light go on..... I was change my Air Flow Sensor and reset my ECC the light was off.On the next ignition CHECK ENGINE goes once more on...So I try that several times... computer reset, ignition on , everythig fine, I was made 500 km without stop the motor , everything was suuuper.BVut when I turn the motor off und then once more On that light come on 5-10 sec. on.
Where is the reason ???????? What I can do ????

'97 model 98 CHECK ENGINE LIGHT

I have a '97 Eddie Bauer and just had my 'Check Engine' light come on and then go off after about 6 days. It has done this for quite a while now and I finally got it checked out at the dealer. They put it on the computer and found that my Oxygen Sensor was malfunctioning. This was causing the engine to periodically idle strange - the same symptoms that you are having. Engine will rev to 1000rpm for 2 seconds and then down to 400rpm for 2 seconds. Back and forth like this.
It's been a couple of weeks since they replaced the sensor and, knock wood, engine is idling normally.

yep... my guess would be oxygen sensor... remember that the
explorer has four of them too...
two of mine were bad... replaced them and cleared it right
up...
they're not cheap though... so be ready to shell out some
cash...

explorer has four of them too...
two of mine were bad... replaced them and cleared it right
up...
they're not cheap though... so be ready to shell out some
cash...

Hallo all
The computer specialist could find the right size of socket to my diagnostic computer ( yes folks we are in Poland, its really away from YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), so I couldnt read code errors , but i was bought original Oxygen sensor (they are not to expensive 1 pcs about 50 US Dollar) and coolant temp. sensor too (35$) I try to resolve this problem in thiss week and I give You all to know whats was next
)))I'm think my car had to many km. about 180.000 km and i think i must sell that and bay somethin ... what Do You think another Explorer or Doge Durango or RAM plise give some ideas.
I make about 10.000 km pro month

Do yourself a favor and keep the explorer,I sell autoparts for a living and if you hate money pits like I do,it's in your best and cheapest intrest to stay with the Ford!HD1
