st..st..stutering problem (vapor lock?)HELP!
I've got a 78 F-250 w/ a 400. I replaced the fuel pump with a carter or mr gasket about two years ago. The problem is this. After running a while and turning the truck off aprox 10 min, when you start up again it idles normally until you start to load the engine, then it starts coughing like it's out of fuel. The same thing happens if it idles to long, you can watch the fuel psi go from 6 all the way to 1 in about three minutes, any suggestions? I've heard of people putting an electric pump after the switcher valve and turning it on when it starts surging, but I'd lke to do something I wouldn't have to explain to my wife every time she drives it... a little more permanent. My only thought is the fuel is staying in the pump to long at idle allowing it to boil and vaporize, how about a bypass regulator routed back into the fuel line at the switcher valve to keep fuel flowing. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
