I'm looking at possibly installing one in my rear end. I am curious to their manners on the road, like chirping tires and wear, and snow manners. Noise isn't an issue as long as nothing is breaking. Thanks Guys
I have the Powertrax LockRight in my rear axle. It is very similar in construction and operation to the EZ Locker. The EZ Locker is supposed to be a little smoother than a LockRight as far as engagement/disengagement goes. My LockRight goes click click click around tight corners and will chirp the tires easily if you give it a little gas on a right hand turn. Overall, it's not any big deal driving with it on the street, nothing like what you hear about. It does go 'clunk' when going from coasting to accelerating. Can't comment on how it does in snow, haven't had it there yet. Does awesome in sand, mud and all other offroad terrains. Will make a major difference in your truck's offroad ability if you currently have an open diff.
Yep, have the open diff. I have a feeling that the alum. toolbox might get put off for later, and the funds reallocated. I for some reason had the idea that I had an ls rear untill I double checked a few weeks ago. I really started seriously thinking about doing a locker after having to lock up in 4x4 to get off of a hard packed patch of smooth, wet soil near our new barn's construction site yesterday. The tires didn't even sink in, and just spun on the surface. Thanks for your reply.
Nate, I know how pathetic 4wd with open diffs can be . That's why I changed mine . I can go places in 2wd now that I used to have to lock the hubs for. Great thing about the EZ Locker and LockRight/NoSlip is they go in the stock open case, cost half as much as a full-case Detroit and accomplish the same thing .
Do you know of any reputable online dealers? Right know I think I'll order from Macromotive. $249 and free shipping.
Some sites say that you will get some understeer with a locker. Do you have this happen at all? Thanks
Yeah, when you're on the gas and making a wide turn it will want to go to the outside of the turn. It's no big deal, just needs a little more steering input. Can try www.reiderracing.com or www.ring-pinion.com for the part.
