Hey guys, I finally got around to swapping back over to the mustang MAF system that I had so many problems with before. I got the air meter recalibrated and got some new 19# injectors and was able to swap everything out tonight. It was much easier this time since I already had the harness made, it was a matter of plug and play. Throttle response is awesome and it feels like it has much more power. I will have to set the timing back due to a slight ping, but it's nowhere near the magnitude of the pinging I had last time. I have to find my canister purge solonoid and get it hooked up, as well as set the idle tps voltage. So I think with a little tweaking it should be very nice. Took me about 3 hours today in the dark with a few rest breaks mixed in. It's amazing how much smoother the sequential injection is over the batch fire. I'll post back on how it is once I get everything set correctly.
Wow, what a difference the MAF calibration can make! I am experiencing none of the problems I had when I first swapped last October. Throttle response is unbelievably better than the stock system, and it is much smoother. The one thing I notice as a little odd is that the Mustang computer does not kick the idle up on a cold start. It doesn't bother me, but the idle is a little low until it's been running for a minute or two. I have had to adjust the timing of my feet a little bit on the clutch and gas when shifting gears to not rev the motor before the clutch is out. I had to get in the gas way early with the SD system due to the hesitation. Compared to the truck system, the new MAF system is almost instantaneous on the throttle. I will have to monitor the fuel mileage to see if I pick up any. With the timing set back a little, I don't hear any knocking (although I haven't driven it very much since then) and the power feels a little better than stock. I really don't expect too much in terms of power, since the motor is almost 20 years old and has 138000 miles on it. It is very smooth and the power seems linear - the more throttle I feed it, the more power it puts out. The truck system was not nearly as smooth with power application, possibly due to the knock sensor making the computer move the timing around. A long test drive is in store for sometime the next few days, soon as I can get the oil changed (it is draining as I write this). I will monitor fuel mileage and post back next time I fill up.
