i believe something in my ignition is messed up i turned the key on the pump primed and then when i hit the start button i heard a soft thump and now the ignition looses power every time i put the key on run when the key is not in the ignition has power
battery power atleast enough to make some impressive sparks when the jumper cables bumped together
starter soleniod is new starter is new
but i dotn think that would be it anyways since it looses power when the ignition switch is turned to the run position
this is a daily driver so i could really use some advice ignition coil? or switch? how hard is it to replace the faulty one and do i need any specail tools
no it completely looses power when the ignition is turned to run
..... the fuel pump wont even prime
i can see with a test light that it has power until the key is turned to run
I recently had a similar problem. Tried to start my 1990 Bronco and heard a clunk and then truck would not turn over. It was as if battery had died but there was power. Tried jumping with another truck. No good. It turned out to be a bad positive battery cable. I replaced it for $10.00 and no more problems.
i have brand new battery cables a 2 guage pos and a 4 guage neg so they should last a longggg time
Yeah, but clean connections? Sounds a LOT like a bad connection somewhere. Like maybe where the negative bolts to the block. Maybe the ground strap to the firewall. Maybe not the positive cable, but the smaller wires that bolt to the solenoid with it. Put your negative meter lead on a good ground on the block, and the positive on the positive cable at the solenoid. Check voltage with key off and see what it goes to when you turn it on and it dies. If you lose voltage on the meter then, it's gotta be either a bad battery or connections. With the key on and everything dead, check battery voltage again at the actual posts, and also on the connections. If it's down at the posts, battery. If it's down on the cables but not the posts, then it's connections there. I've seen new,clean-looking posts and cables be bad.
