Help! New motor frozen?!

OK, here it is. PLEASE HELP ME. I am so frustrated with my 89 Bronco right now. I bought a new 351 longblock from Advance last December and unfortunately had to leave it sitting in a garage as I deployed to the desert. It turned fine (manually)outside of the truck. I dropped it in and then had to deploy for 6 months before returning. It won't turn over. The starter and solenoid are good. The truck shifts into neutral and will roll. Everything looks fine mechanically, but I definitely cannot turn the crank manually either. I pulled all the plugs, thinking the compression was too great, but with the 1000 cranking amps my battery has I figured that I was stabbing in the dark. It just clicks HARD once everytime I try to start it. It sounds like the starter is trying. I backed it off a little bit and it ground (not good), so I tightened it back down. I don't think that I am leaving anything out. Somebody please give me some insight on this so that I can be happily riding around in my Bronc again!

Scott

Welcome home. Forget the starter, you will just burn it up. Squirt something like WD-40 in the spark plug holes, all of them. Let it sit over night. Go shopping and get a 1/2 inch breaker bar an extension and a socket to fit the harmonic damper bolt. You might want to take the radiator and shield out to get some room. Put the breaker bar with socket on the bolt and turn clockwise. If it turns you are ready to reassemble and fire it up. If it does not turn or only turns a tiny bit, more WD-40 or something like it, let is sit and try again.

You know what it may be, it may be the EGR pump......THEY ALWAYS FREEZE UP. Take your serp belt off and then try turning it over.

Possabley your A/C pump....but take the belt off first and then try and crank it manually with a socket and ratchet.

when you installed the engine are you sure that the torque converter was installed properly into the trans? if not maybe you are bound up in that respect. since you installed the new engine has it ever run?
i think that if you had a bound pump or compressor the starter would still crank the engine and it would slip the belt.

Thanks for the quick replies. I tried without the serpentine setup already, in fact that is how it is now. I'm pretty sure that the torque converter was put in properly (it's keyed, isn't it?) I am unable to turn it with the breaker, but I will try the WD-40 suggestion. I'll fill the cylinders tommorow morning. I pray that it's not the torque converter! If that's the case, I really don't feel like pulling the engine again. Wouldn't it try turning over anyhow with the truck in neutral, regardless of converter alignment (I am asking honestly)?? As always suggestions are always welcome.

I wouldn't use WD I would get a can of Marvel's Mystery Oil it penetrates rings real well also helps seal any pits in the cylinder. One thing be careful reefing on it with a breaker bar, I have heard of stuck rings breaking. While it sat was any part left open, pvc, breather tube anything like that. Also if the oil in the cylinders doesn't work pull valve covers and rockers and tap intake valves with a solid rubber hammer make sure they all open. Alot of times if a motor sits moisture will condense in the intake, causing intake valves to lock up the cam. Good luck man that is definatly a bummer deal.
