CB radio hookup

I got a CB for from a garage sale and I was planning on hooking it up but my friend said that if you dont tune it right you can burn it up, is this right?

no, you will not burn it up. if the ant. is not tuned right(swr) you will not get as good of range. one thing that can burn it up is keying the mike(trying to transmit) with no ant hooked up to the unit

So if I dont have an ant hooked up then dont try and talk on it correct. Just wanna make sure I get this cause I dont wanna mess it up even tho it was only 3 bucks lol.
So how do you tune it?

You need an SWR meter to tune it right. I would recommend taking it to a CB shop and having them do it. They only charge about $20 around here. Most decent truck stops will have a CB shop nearby if not on the property itself. You don't need to have this done to use the Cb though, just don't use it unless you have an antenna hooked up.
