2.8 engin swap

Hey everyone!

I have a 1984 2.8 v6 carb engin. And I'm getting the feeling it's gonna keel soon. (341 000 doesn't help it). Anyone know what other engins will hook in relativly easily? Do any other cars/trucks by ford have the same 2.8s in them? It wouldn't bother me to change the CPU and wiring etc. to go to injected. I'm just worried about it hooking to the mounts and the tranny.

Any ideas?
Thanks!

2.8L is found in the Rangers and BII's up to 1985
2.9L is found in the Rangers and BII's 1986 and up.
If you go with a 2.9L fuel injected motor make sure to take EVERYTHING! wiring, computer, exhaust manifolds. 2.9 intakes, heads, manifolds will not bolt up onto a 2.8L block..one is chained timing and the other geared..I know this first hand. I now have a complete 2.8L with less then 3000 miles on it sitting in my back yard I can't use now cuz my new BII is 2.9L fuel injected.

Well since you don’t mind doing a fuel injection swap (wiring, pump ect.), a 2.9 or 4.0 would be good. Thing is, you will need EVERYTHING that makes the engine run, from the mechanicals to the wiring and CPU, as just about everything from the 2.8 wont fit ether 2.9 or 4.0. The transmission from the 2.8 WILL fit the 2.9 and 4.0, and the motor mounts are very similar. The transmission won’t fit 3.0 though.

You could always rebuild the 2.8 too.
