Today I push the clutch pedal in, start the motor, go to take off and I've gone from about 2 inches of freeplay at the bottom to about 4-5 inches of freeplay. The clutch still engages fine and has some freeplay at the top but I read that if there is not enough freeplay at the top it will press on the pressure plate and burn the disc up. Anyone have any idea where this extra freeplay came from, should I be worried? It actually feels right compared to newer trucks I've driven but I'm baffled as to where the extra freeplay came from all the outside linkage is there and the bolts on the rod that pushes on the fork are tight.
You mean that this happened overnight? Ok one day then this way the next?
If so, then I would get under the truck and look at the clutch linkage. Bent linkage rod maybe? Grasping at straws here, Does the bottom of your bellhousing have an inspection cover that you can take off? If so, take it off and have a look inside. Maybe the pivot point that the clutch fork pivots on has broke off. This can happen though not likely.
Yeah, it just happened overnight, none of the external linkage is damaged. No inspection plate on clutch housing, clutch still engages/disengages fine so I'm just puzzled as to where the extra freeplay came from.
