After reading all the great posts here I have started troubleshooting my 96 Explorer. Basically I have the usual domelight that stays on after shutting all of the doors. I have isolated down to the GEM module because I can have all doors shut and just turn the ignition on and off and that fixes makes the lights shut off. Another fix when I get out of the vehicle is to press the unlock button on the remote twice...count to ten and then press the lock button....that cuts them off almost every time.
I have also noticed that this occurs only when the temperature is above 50 degrees outside...anytime it is cold they always work flawless. I am thinking maybe a cold solder joint??? Has anyone taken out a GEM module and taken it apart? What is the easiest way to get at this critter? I read that someone said it was behind the radio panel....I installed a CD player recently and didn't notice it...is this the real location?
