Your right about the overfill. The cooling comes from the expansion of the refrigerant in the evaporator.(Thats where the air cooling takes place,in the heater / evaporator housing) It's controlled by a throttling valve that holds back the pressure between the high and low sides on the system. If you overfill, then the pressure difference is less. This cuts down on the ability of the system to work right. ALL engineers aren't DUMB!
