There was an artical in one of the 4 w d mags about putting cowl induction on a Dodge/Cummings , they said it increased the turbo noise . I can see where it would be louder because there are no noise baffles and the air intake is right in front of you . I think I would do the exhaust first and see how I liked the sound before I cut a hole in the firewall , but that's just me .

'whine' that I want---straight exhaust or open air intake?

thx again
Where do you want to hear the 'whine' from? if you want to hear it in the cab straight from the turbo, an open air intake will make it louder; if you want to hear it at the exhaust, then the straight pipe will do it. Personally I would look at doing both, not just because it will sound good but it will help your engine out alot, help it breath easier. You can get a Tymar intake setup for less that $200,probably the most popular setup here, and depending on how well you know the guys at the muffler shop or if you can do it yourself, the price for the straigth pipe will vary.
