I asked in the SD section and no one was of help. I have the key pad on the door but do not know the code. I know the dealer will be happy to rip me off for 80 bucks and pull the code but the customer hotline tole me it was on the keyless entry module but they did not know where it was. So anyone know know where it is.
I ended up spending only $35 to get the code. It was well worth it! One of the coolest features of the truck. I like not having to carry keys all the time. It's even better when I go surfing or diving.
I was told on the light duty SUVs (expy/expl) it is on a panel back where the jack is. I have also been told that on the excursion it is on the computer that is way up behind the middle of the dash and a serious pita to get at. I couldn't find the tag. I paid the dealer $37 to get mine.
Good luck!

Reason: spelling
I would jump on $37, I found what I think is the RAP module behind the radio but it has 9 big #'s not 5. I tore the dash apart and it is no where to be found. On the Expy it is under the dash on the fire wall towards the outside in the Explorer it is in front of the wheel well in the jack compartment. At least that is what I have found searching so far. fortyford has a manuel and it says behind the radio but again I did not see it. It is now mid night so screw it till later. LOL
This question comes up regularly. I frequent four forums on the X, and one of them for three years.... and noone has ever found the number on the vehicle anywhere. So save yourself the hassle and have the dealer retrieve it for you. If your dealer wants $80, then call around to other Ford dealers until you find one that is reasonable. I would think $37 is reasonable.
I agree $37 is OK but I have 2 dealers close and 1 was $70 the other was $80 so I am going looking a little futher out. Thanks.
You know I think Ford did this as a scam! Back when I sold Ford the # was in many places on the car, if you put in your own coad and the bat died you needed the factory code and most peole did not remember it because they changed it. Well no big deal it was in a few places you did not need to pay a dealer. Not now!
When I qeustioned them about the $37 dollars for a two second computer hook up and code pull, they told me that they actually had to hook it up to the computer and let it sit for 30-35 minutes for it to get the code. They stated that this was because Ford programmed it like that so that someone can't pull up, hook up the computer and grab you code and be gone. *shrug* BS? I dunno. They said the $35 + fees was for tying up their computer for 1/2 an hour.
Sounds kinda fishy to me, but it was the only game in town, so...
I had mine done by a local locksmith and it does take a while for it to give you the code for the reasons they told daaver. I don't remember what I paid but it is well worth it as Mosta said. Just call around to locksmiths who can reprogramm keys and they should have the computer with matching software.
This is so obvious I sure you already checked this,,, anyway here goes, I have a Mercury with keyless , in my owners manual there a plastic card with the factory code I can use this code anytime to unlock , change, or reset my password, This card looks kinda like a credit card , all official like. Along with the vin # of the vehicle.. Maybe its just a Mercury thing.
Hope this helps and does not offend
Mike
The Ex comes from the factory with the very same card carrying the factory code. The problem is that both new and used car dealers clean out trade-ins and throw all that stuff away. So if you buy a used Ex, like I did, you don't have the benefit of the card. In my case, I bought used from a Ford dealer. I went back a week later and made them hook up the computer and get the factory code. The bill said $55 (back in 2001) but I was not charged.
The dealer lied about how long it takes!
I drove up talked some and then he sat in my truck, I looked at my watch and it was 1:01pm he turned the ac and radio off, plugged into the data port and the cigarette lighter then turned the key on and waited for it to talk. He then hit general electronics, scrolled to key code or key pad code did not see that well and then said there’s you number. I looked at my watch and it was 1:05pm, a whopping 4 minutes! And they want 70 bucks for this? What a pant load, I am glad I got it for free!
