Well, some times people get lemons, for the prices your buying these things for maybe your getting the lemons with the juice squeezed out.
$200 & $250 dollars are prices of parts vehicles, one of these days you'll get a good one.
Not trying to be rude but how can you expect to buy as 22+ year old truck for $250.00 and expect it to run like a new one. I have a 78 f250 4x4 and even though they are probably the toughest trucks ever built I expect to have to replace some parts after 24 years of abuse.
Try buying a 24 year old ch*vy and it will be about 90% Auto Zone, 1% ch*vy and 9%rust.
I would't expect anything to run for that price anymore. I can barely find a parts vehicle for those prices. Thats what I don't understand anyways. Why does someone think that there 13 year old truck that was rolled over and caught on fire is still worth over $500. Sometimes more. Its rediculous how greedy some people are. I Just sold a stock Y-block 4 barrel intake manifold with the stock carb and everything pretty much with it for $10+ the shipping, just because I wanted him to get a good use out of it for his project. If you have no use for something at least try to help someone out who does. Thats the way I look at it.
Can't argee with you more. I cannot find anything less than $500, even on 80's, 70's, 60's vechiles.
There used to be a time where you could buy an old car for less than $100 and fix it up for less than $500 and drive it worry-free for years.
I spent $2000 on the 79 F350 4x4, because I thought if I paid more, I would get a good one. I didn't. I got ripped off, bought the truck without the proper paperwork.
Too paranoid to do anything, guess I'll have to sell it. I still have the 77 F250 2wd, I guess I'll learn how to rebuild an engine using the F250 as a guiena pig.
73-79 are the only trucks I'll ever buy, but things isn't going my way. Might as well give it in and cough up $30k on a new F350.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-Apr-02 AT 08:13 PM (EST)]I have to say when I bought my 83 ranger I paid $300 for it. It was a good vehicle for the money. I still have it but now it has a 302 and is not really a commuter car anymore. I paid $2500 for my 78 F-150 4x4 a few years ago. No major problems except for keeping driveshafts in it. Now it is sitting in the pole barn waiting for me to finish restoring it. That reminds me of the parts vehicle thing. Someone on this site was going to sell me a parts truck for a killer deal last year but our house issue came up and we kind of lost contact. My point being is that every once and a while someone will cut you a deal, but not very often. I once paid $50 for an 86 Ranger 4x4 that I wish I would have never gotten rid of. Man I kick myself everytime I think about that thing.
EDIT: If you ever pick up another one of those lemons for $200 and decide to junk it you could let me know. I am trying to find a decent parts truck to finish my 78. :-)
Yes, once a while, someone will cut you a deal.....mostly people who doesn't know how much they are really worth. I bought an all original low mileage 1979 F100, but turns out a lemon nowadays. Grr.
