My 91 5.0 always started right up, and although it idled rough it never had trouble starting. The other day I went to start it, and it just cranked and cranked... I replaced the plug, cap, rotor, wires.. started right up the first time, but then had trouble after that.
I put my inductive timing light on one of the wires... and nothing! Maybe a couple if weak initial flashes, but then none at all. I tested the timing light on three other vehicles I have around here, and it worked on all of them. Curious, I clamped it over the main lead going into the center of the cap, and did in fact get a continuous bunch of flashes, like I would expect.
I am wondering if maybe my coil is dying, and putting out a weak spark? The wires I put on are Bosch Premium, which I know are the spiral type, I don't know if that would affect anything...
Has anyone experienced this before? Any help before I go out and possibly waste $50 on a new coil would be mucho appreciated!
I just had this problem with my 92. I pulled the spout connector and hooked up the timing light and then had intermiten flashes but nothing consitent. I did have some spare lengths of Taylor wire laying around and made a new coil wire but I did that after I got sick of trying to mess with the timing so I dont know if it helped.
