Running on empty
We own a 03 Explorer; recently had to have fuel pump and sending unit replace due to the following reason. Say you have a 1/4 tank of gas and you fill it up until the gas pump won't let you pump no more; you then crank the SUV and automatically your dash fuel gauge goes to empty; it took about 20 miles for the gauge to read full tank; we took the vehicle in and the local dealer had to replace those two parts; hope this little story will help some one else in the same situation. Mileage at time of problem was 34k; once in the dealership repair shop; the service tech; rode to local gas station to see for himself; he even notice the rear end humming or roaring; they also had to replace the rear end as well; Service Tech told me its a common problem but not a recall on rear ends; but we notice as 32k the sound was getting louder; I thought it was because I recently rotated the tires; but he stated the Michelin brand don't make a humming sound regardless of thread life.
