1992 explorer
I am new to this fourm and it seems like great thing. Anywho, I just bought a 1992 explorer with the 4.0 . It has been somewhat troublesome since the day I bought it. When I took delivery of it it wouldn't start, so I called the guy who sold it to me and he said to tighten the negative batt cable and wait a few secs so I did. It started and ran fine. Then when I got it home it sat in the driveway a few hours and I got back in it and drove half to my girlfireds house (she lives 30 mins away), when I got halfway there it started to surge at the stop lights at idle. When I threw it in park it seemed to do fine. So I got to her house and turned it off. We came back to it about an hour later, and guess what, it would not start! So I fooled around with it for a while, and then I had her give me a jumpstart. At this point I was starting to get really pissed! I got the truck home and the next day I put a starter on it and it seemed to fix the starting problem. It was still surging, so 120 dollars later at a mechanic shop, he said a bunch of vacumm lines where loose. So now it idels fine and no weirdness. The next day when i went to start it, it quit, then I started it again and it idled real rough. But after a few min of driving it runs fine. It only idles rough at starts. Now after about 30 mins of driving the oil pressure gage goes to the low point, it only does this at idle with foot on brake, like at stop lights. When I take off it goes back to normal. This car so far doesn't use a drop of oil, and this oil is still clean after 2 weeks of drving. Also, it DRINKS the gas! Does anyone have any insights. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks Sean:-(
Thanks for the help it seemed to fix the problem. I gave the inside of the sensor a good soaking wirtht he stuff and the truck has never run better!
Thanks again,
Sean
