Hi all, this forum has a lot of usefull info in it and I am hoping someone can help me out! I want to lift my '86 F250 10", no blocks! I have been looking into getting custom springs from National Spring or Alcan, but they are too expensive. I have been searching this fourm for help and have seen a few posts on shackle flip kits from Sky-Manf., any input on these kits would be great. I checked out Sky's webpage, do you really obtain 4.5" of lift w/ this kt? What brand 6" springs should I use with this kit? Does anyone sell shakles and springs in a kit?
Also, how about the front, I am replacing the TTB Dana 50 w/ a Dana 60, I see ORU makes a kit for the front '86.5 - 91' F350, will this work w/ my 86' F250? I am looking for other suggestions on how to obtain the 10" lift in the front, w/o block.
Thanks in the advance for the hlep!
why in the world do you want 10" of lift? you are gonna take a turn one day and flip!
the sky kit will give you apprx 4.5" of lift! you can gain a lot more if you dont use your exisiting stock holes! also, you will get more lift from the back if you lowe your front mounts down to center the axle back up! i would go with a standard 6" skyjacker springs in the rear and take the bottom leaf out!
yes you can shackle flip the the front of yours and then add longer shackles to level the truck out! no they don't make sporing and shackle kits. it is very easy to make your own shackles though
watch my gallery in the next week or so cause i am doing the shackle reversal on my truck too....but i am doing it for better ride and more flex!
I'm also re-doing the stock front shackle reversal on the front of my pickup and building my lift into it so I don't have to replace my stock springs. I'll have pics up one of these days when I get some time to finish it up.
Thanks Fish, I'm not too worried about rolling over, infact if I don't roll it over at some point I'll be disappointed!
I think I am going to order the rear shackle kit from Sky. Did you lower your front rear-spring mounts, how much lift did you get? Does your truck have the skyjacker springs and why take the bottom leaf out?
i have not relocated my spring mounts....yet! i plan on it. i got about 3-3.5" of lift from the sky flip kit. yes i have the skyjacke 6" lift springs up front and i took the bottom leaf out b/c i wanted better ride, better flex, and not as muych lift. i don't wanna be sky high and top heavy. but silly me!
Fish, if it is not too much hassle, could you list all of your suspension mods for front and rear, and include a little discription of each mod. From what you have said so far, it sounds like you have done (or are in process of doing) what I want to do.
I also put a set of these things on my '79 Bronco. Got the right lift, and you can actually adjust it a little, as they come with 2 places to mount your spring.
I have the vehicle in bits right now, and I cant, for the life of me, remember how the shackle sit with the vehicle on the ground.
Anyhow, try to make sure that your shackles angle back about 45 deg for the best ride, handling and articulation.
Allrighty then. Lets see, swapping in a d60 in leiu of the ttb. Good move. Want to eliminate blocks and go up to 10" of lift, check. I'd say the shackle flip can indeed net you @4.5 of lift in the rear. 6" springs in the tail and there you are. The front is another story. If you are set on 10" of lift and really don't want the custom springs then you are looking at lowering your shackle mounts, like I did. I think thats better anyways, because those really tall banana springs don't articulate for crap. With that lift also be prepared to put on cross over steering. I'm glad to hear you don't want to use a block in front. Always a BAD idea. There have also been several threads about suspension design/lift design in here, and a search would probably help you out to. Have fun with your build.
