i had a windshield banner on my pickup that said FEAR THIS! and decided to take it off and put a new one on. (had chips and such out of it, looked bad) well me and a buddy tried, but could not get it to line up and form to the windshield. we soaked the w'shield in soapy water along with the banner...every time we tried to get it to curve, it would sinch up and bubble and such. so is there any way of doing this easier?? i miss that banner for blocking the sun...and want to try it again. any help is greatly appreciated!
The problem is that the edge of the decal is straight but your windshield is curved. Just let a small amount of the top edge of the decal over lap the top of the windshield and then take an exacto knife and trim it to the curve of the windshield. Then continue with the soapy water (very little dish soap works well) amd squegee to get it smooth.
Typically what Ive done in the past on all windshield decals is CAREFULLY cut out each letterthen soap up the window heavily...I lay out the letters on the soapOnce I get them to where they look right through the paper and in relation to each other and the window I hit them up carefully with a tint squeegee and a heat gun on low heat... Perfect every time..
To do mine, I just used soapy water (you only need about a teaspoon of dish soap to a gallon of water). Put that in a spray bottle to make it easier. Spray the windshield and the back of the banner but you do not need to soak it. Then place your decal kinda where you want it. Have your buddy hold one end and you start in the middle and work your way towards the other. Warm up the decal with a heat gun or hair dryer and then use a credit card or small rubber squeegie to apply. You may have to keep going over a few spots at the edges where air keeps coming back, but eventually the air should leave. Those banners usually stretch fairly easily, so you will probably have to stretch it to fit. When you have most of the air out, trim the edges with an exacto knife and squeegie any remaining air. The hair dryer really helps the banner to flex and will stop it from sinching up. Good luck!
