Question fuel pressure

I'm new here so be kind......My truck is a 97 4x4 automatic 7.3L PSD with some kind of weard fuel problem (that an't gona beat me)...If I screw a pressure gage into the fitting on the side of the regulator (it looks like a tire inflation fitting) the gage pressure bounces from 40 to 80 with each stroke of the pump (the faster the engine turnes the faster the bounce) Is this normal or should it smooth out?...and is this normal pressure?

It's very normal, and your fuel pressure is right where you want it. 65-85 is considered optimum.

Thanks,,,,In a way I wish that it was not normal...fuel pumps are easy. This crazy thing looses power gradually (like a dirty filter) down to an undriveable power level, idles rough as a cob, then you turn it off,,,, count to 10 start it up;; and like presto! it is back to full power, smooth power...completely freaking normal!!! for several days!! then it starts again. tanks are full, filters are clean, oil is new, turbo boost is 13psi. cam position sensor is new.
Any help
Thanks Forbes

I'd be willing to bet that Stanadyne would clear up your problem. The recommended ratio is 1oz/4gallons of fuel. To get the injectors cleaned up, I'd double that for a few tanks, and see how much better it runs.
