I have a 1991 Ranger with a 2.9. It overheated when it blew a radiator hose on the highway with my daughter driving. I can't find a replacement motor of the same year. Can I replace with 2.9s from other years (what years?) or with other size engines (what sizes?). I am not a pro at this and need some good advice so I can hunt for a motor. Thanks.
best bet is to keep the same motors. its less hassle. im not sure, but 89-91 bronco 2s and rangers can have them, i think. my motor got pulled out of a 1990 b2. youll have to ask our "ranger gurus" for more about which other motors can fit. oh yeah do you have a standard or automatic?
All 2.9s are basiclly the same, the first few years had EGR but you can just swap the plate from the old engine to cover it. THe next easiest thing is a 4.0, same engine design but bigger, it will require electronics/wiring.
