Why reflash?

I am trying to decide whether to buy a 2004 4x4 Crewcab with a 5.4L gas engine or a 2005 4x4 Crewcab with the 6.0L diesel engine. From what I read hear, it sounds to me like Ford has eliminated the mechanical issues with the diesel engine. But, I also see alot of posts about reflash problems. It sounds like the reflash is causing mileage, power and smoking problems. Why have you had to reflash the software for the 6.0L diesel engines? Is there a need for it to be done to any of the 6.0L engines built after mid 2004?

Thanks.
Ron

Ron....
if the decision is b/w the 5.4 and 6.0 -
drive them both and I can't imagine deciding for the 5.4 in MHO

I wonder if the 5.4 is too small an engine for the HEAVY crew cab...

The flashes are Ford's attempt to address computer parameter issues...
just like with any software, once you release it into production there are ALWAYS things that can (or should) be tweaked...
