when a computer is hooked up to my explorer.... the CEL light only comes on after about 2 hrs of driving it.... and the throttle response starts to act up.... what does this exactly mean
</DIR>
Do you mean a code 565? Is it a KOEO, KOER, or continuous memory code?
The cannister purge solenoid circuit is very simple, and there are effectiviely only two conditions that will trigger that code: 1) somewhere the cannister purge solenoid circuit is open, or 2) Somewhere the cannister purge solenoid circuit is shorted to ground. If it's a continuous memory code but the KOEO portion yields a pass (111) code, then it would indicate that the condition is intermittent.
shouldn't be too hard to resolve. Just get a wiring diagram and go through the CANP circuit until you find the fault.
To cut down on hydrocarbon emissions, your truck has an "evaporative emissions" control system. In essence, there's a vacuum line that goes from the vapor space in your gas tank to a charcoal cannister under the hood. Gasoline vapors from the gas tank collect here rather than venting out to the air. There's a hose running from this charcoal cannister to the intake, with a solenoid valve in it -- the cannister purge solenoid. When energized by the PCM, the valve opens and the gasoline vapors collected in the charcoal cannister are drawn into the intake to be burned during normal combustion. The EEC-IV system isn't very sensitive to faults in the system. It can only see a complete failure of the circuit.
When you say it's only a problem after 2 hours of driving, does that means your truck passes the KOEO portion of the test, so that it's only a continuous memory code? All I can say is that it must take 2 hours or so of driving for the fault in the circuit to appear. Or maybe it takes 2 hours for the computer to decide it's a problem. But if it's just a continuous memory code, that indicates that it's intermittent, which could make it that much more difficult to track down.
the mechanic said thats its nothing to worry about.... the onyl difference i notice is that the throttle isnt very responsive until i mash the pedal and then it kicks in... hence i guess its lookin for a source of fuel that isnt there.... i think just turning off the vehicle and starting it back up resets it and i dont have that problem anymore... thanks for the tips
