I got one for you guys 97 expedition 4.6 after towing boat in hot weather when I come to a stop at a light the truck will not idle without holding foot on the gas and is skipping bad check engine light does not come on at all. Once the truck gets rolling again it smooths out and runs fine. Has never happened with out towing the boat. Temp gauge is fine and tranny temp is fine.
Two things come to mind, the IAC valve and the throttle position sensor (tps), although most IAC valve problems occur when the engine is cold. Try a search of these two and you'll find a lot of info.
Fuel filter about 30,000 ago any idea why it would only occur when hot. Any body know what triggers the overheat protection circuit that alternates the firing side and where this sensor is?
no. If the light has never come on, then no codes have been generated. When I read you post, I thought you said the light did come on sometimes. If I remember correctly, my explorer did through a CEL for quite a while when my O2s went bad. How many miles do you have on the truck?
70,000 very easy miles never had a problem with it except oil changes and brakes and broken torsion bar in front but this makes me uneasy maybe time for a new one. Do not want to get stuck with it somewhere with the boat on the back.
