The five speed in my 88 bII is leaving the Reverse-5(?)forfk engaged when I pull the stick back into neutral.I'm led to believe this because when the stick is back in neutral,I can place the shifter into 1,2,3,and4 but not 5 or rev. Also now it is locked in 5 or reverse or both because if I try to pull away is stalls and when the shifter is in neutral and the clutch pushed in the truck won't roll.Have to pop the transfer case into neutral to move the demon. Can I solve this with a new shifter or some other repair that doesnt involve tranny removal? Thanks for your time! hmm...im not really sure. But the fact that you have to put your transfer case in neutral to move it is just bizzare. You're hubs aren't locked are they?
Nope, hubs unlocked and the axel rolls fine.Seems like It's sticking in two gears at once.If two gears of different ratio are both engaged in the tranny,it won't roll Right?Oil was awfully icky.Grey, and when I drained it,it piled up in the pan.Giggled like jello and eraser like in density.Could be gumming every thing up?(willing to bet it's factory oil,300,000 kilometers old like the shocks and springs)
I lost first and second on mine twice. turned out to be a roll pin that fell out of the shift fork. The second time i used some locktite sleave retainer and it hasent happened since. it was a pretty easy fix though i just pulled off the pan and it was right there.
