My ? is i have a 81 ford f-150 with a 351M and my A/C compressor will not turn on see i rebuilt my motor and i did not miss with any of the A/C stuff just put it off to the side, and i put it back on but for about a month i did not put the belt on it ,so i put it on yesterday (becase it is getting hot In OKC) and the compressor will not turn on. their is 2 wires that is on the hose (i dont know what it is called but the one when you pop the hood the one that is the hose that is right in front of the distributor and the wire is green) one wire is grounded to the compressor and the other one is not connected to anything and their is no place to hook it up so if you have any info it would help me alot thanks Trevor
Sometimes the hoses will leak when you bend them back. If you don't have any refrigerant pressure in the system - the compressor will not start. You can try a 134A charge and leak kit to see if you have a problem. If you do, you'll need new hoses and 'O'-ring gaskets and then another 134A charge kit. You might be better off taking it to a shop to at least get a pressure test to see if you have a leak.
It sounds to me that it is unplugged. You have a connector that the two wires you mention go into side by side right? If so, you will need to look right behind the pulley on the A/C pump, you will see two bare spades side by side, and that is where you will plug it in. If you can't quite find it, I will have to try to get a look at one to give a more detaileed description as to location, I just don't have one right here, mine is different. It sounds like you have the older pump that was common in the 70's.
there is not any wires behind the pulley and and i hooked up the one wire that was not connected and i hooked it up to the battery, and it turned on the blower motor which is weird i dont know what to do. fello86 if you can look up one for me i would greatly appreciate it thanks Trevor!

Coming off the air conditioner clutch solonoid, (which has a ground wire) there should be a black/yellow wire, it goes to the air conditioner thermostat, which has two wires coming off of it. Black/yellow, Light Green/Purple.
the Black/yellow wire goes to a diode, which grounds after the diode, and also goes to the eng electronic processor. EEC. (if equipped)
The Light Green/Purple wire goes to a engine compartment light, (if equipped), and goes to the Air Conditioner mode switch, and through this switch hooks to the blower motor through a brown/orange wire. A Orange/black wire then goes from the blower motor to the blower motor switch and resistor.
Looks like a bit better info than I came up with. I'm not certain which compressor you have, is it like an aircompressor pump, or long circular more like a air conditioning compressor looks like any more?
I don't believe it would be EEC yet, should still be Duraspark ignition. I came up short on examples here. It's in the years where the technology was shifting to the style most of us are familiar with for the 80's trucks.
It sounds like the older style, like I thought, don't remember the name, York I think. Anyway, the AMC that I found had one like that had only one wire coming off it, and that is the power wire, and it was self grounded. It had a barrel clip that went to the harness. Somehow, you may have crossed a wire and hooked up to it wrong, the blower fan has me baffled. I need to find one to look at to find out. It may be a couple weeks, but it sounds like the setup my parent's E150 has, so when I get up there again, I'll have to try to get a look.
I know on ford A/C systems that the blower motor switch does not have an off. To get the fan to turn off the mode lever has to be in the off position. If the mode lever is in the A/C, vent, or heater positions the fan is automaticly turned on. to adjust the speed you use the blower motor switch.
When you hooked up that one wire, what position was your mode lever in when the blower motor came on? Does it turn off or stay on in the OFF position?
Which color wire did you hook up? If it is the Lt Green/purple wire, then that would explain the reason why it turned on. You back fed the power to the blower motor, cause that wire is hooked up in line, etc...
I've been looking at my wiring diagrams and it says the Lt Green/purple wire hooks up to the a/c thermostat and to the Carburetor Idle speed solonoid on the side of the carburetor.
i hoooked up the green one! YEAH THAT IS WHERE THAT GREEN WIRE YOUNST TO BE AT BUT I bought a new carbarator and i does not have one of them is another place for me to hook up that green wire?
