Last week I saw a Crew Cab Special with a 70 grille pull up and park. Blue with black steel rims, standard height.
Never seen one before, coolest looking Ford truck I've ever seen. We walked all around and had a good look at it. Front seats were two bucket seats with a console between.
No F250 or F whatever badges so I don't know which one it was. Just the Crew Cab Special badges.
This must be one rare truck, anyone know a site that says how many were built? Or any other info on these?
No, wasn't a 66, it had the 67-72 body. No reason to think it wasn't a 70 and it definately had the 70 grill.
There is almost no info I can find on the web about these and I'm kinda obsessed with this truck. Found one piece of info, here on this site, here it is:
heavydutyspecial
As my username suggests, my speciality is the specials built in 1970, and nearby dates. According to both my sales literature and my personal experience, there were 5 specials in 1970: 1) Contractor special, 2)Farm and Ranch special, 3)Heavy Duty special, 4)Crew Cab special, 5)Camper special. I own a Heavy Duty special, have seen TWO crew cab specials, and many dozens of camper specials. According to 1970 literature, the camper special package includes the following: 1)sliding rear window, 2)70 amp-hour battery, 3)oil pressure guage, 4)ammeter, 5)western mirrors, 6)extra cooling package, 7)camper wiring harness, 8)dual electric horns(except with electric power pak), 9)rear shock absorbers for F-350, 10)camper special emblem. I have limited sales brocuers for 1969, but the same holds true, except for the rear window, but I am not sure on that.
Man, I wish I had a pic. didn't know how rare this truck must be until I got home that night and googled on the web and couldn't find any info. When I got home I was thinking, I want a truck like that. Guess that won't happen.
The really cool thing was after it parked four people got out of all four doors... Having a crew cab and one one guy getting out is not so cool... Plus it was cool it was pretty low to the ground not all jacked up. The thing was real loud too and this was in Santa Cruz CA on the main street in the evening. We were sitting outside eating in the outside part of a restaurant on the sidewalk on the other side of the street when it pulled up.
well i see nothing wrong with having a single cab, i ussally get out with a couple women, but thats me. haha. anyways, try a couple of ford sites, some others have areas to brag about your truck. maybe one is there. or. . . you could pray to the blue oval god that the guy who owns that one puts it up for sale and you buy it. probally wont happen tho
It was a dealer option here in texas, it has a supension upgrade, a heavy dudy bumper, an emblem in the cab, and thats about it. I cant find numbers on it, but i assume its harder to find. I have the papers and everything, it is all orginal packaging. So if anyone knows. . .
There is one on eBay for 2K BIN! White 67 I Think. These trucks are way sweet! There is a yellow shortbed stepside in my town. Kinda cool. I think they were made for the railroad companies and stuff like that.
I love those old Crew Cabs! I saw one in a wrecking yard one day; at first I thought it was custom made. I see one every so often. I think the military may have used 'em, too. I know they used Dodge Crews.
