I have a buddy at work who has a car he wants to trade me for my motorcycle...now i know this is a good trade but listen to the whole story 1st....the guy wants to trade me my 1995 CBR 900RR that is in the paint shop getting a 1 off custom paint job courtesy of BlueKustoms.com....this is gonna end up being about a $3k job add that to the value of the bike makes it worth about $8-9k....Now my buddy wants to trade me title for title for his 1999 Mustang Cobra..... right?? well the thing has a lil bit of damage...it was slid off in a ditch on the drivers side.....the front spoiler is ruined, the 1/4 panel in the front is crumpled, the door is dented badly, and the rear 1/4 is dented pretty bad......i mean its fixable and i do know a good paint& body guy or 2....the front spoiler is included as he bought a new one from Ford which is still primer gray.....he ran out of $$ to work on this thing with as his settlement $$ ran out....now he wants something fast and ridable now....whadya think?? would you do it?? the bike is in 100% condition running and cosmetic....it will start up on the 1st try and only needs the choke when its freezin outside....and still starts right up as long as the choke is on....just to give you some background on the bike
seriously? i was thinkin about it pretty hard and i dunno man its a pretty nice car...all leather power everything 4.6L 32 valve engine boasted 320hp but actually put out like 275hp....i think it might be fun but the main thing is how much damage is done....i was gonna put it up on the lift and be sure that it was straight....my worry is that the guy will kill himself on the bike...hes not too co-ordinated as you can tell by the mustang's damage.
hmm now theres a good idea....thanks parks....he said he wanted a fast ride so maybe ill tell him ill give him 1500 for it and show him where to score a bike for 1500.....i have no idea where to score a bike for 1500 but ill let him know that after i get the title in my name
good advice here....anyone know what a car like that is worth?? i mean even on kbb.com they wont give a price for it when its beaten....ive seen em for 7k on ebay etc....i dunno i think ill buy it outright and keep the bike.
KBB gives '99 Cobra as $12.6k in good condition. Fair drops it to $11.5k. You'll end up spending another $5 or 6k to get it even halfway decent-looking and that doesn't allow for any mechanical damage. Have a friend who used to do some repair work...his rule of thumb was, figure fair condition value, subtract the obvious repairs and work (body work, paint, alignment, tires, whatever), and then offer half of whatever was left to cover stuff that you didn't see the first time. Example--if you guess $6k to fix it, that leaves it worth about $5500, half of that is $2750. Even then it was sort of a gamble. I'll go with Parks--offer him $1500 or 2000 for the Mustang as it sits, and keep your bike.
