Could not find the recent tread on p.s swap for an FE engine. Just completed p.s swap on 65 w/ 302 which did not require any modification of motor supports or mounts. Obtained items for same upgrade for my other 65 w/ 390, decided to go with the FoMoCo steering box. Came across thread and if recall indicated the upgrade would require changing driver's side motor mount. Thought bookmarked the thread but unable to locate, a search not helpful either. My question, does change motor mount mean the driver's side mount as well as perch/support. Would it require removing current perch/support and bolting the correct one in. Believe thread mentioned 'sweeping' mount. If the case, any suggestions where can locate the perch.
Any suggestions, input would be appreciated.
Thank you,
dave
Yes, you will need a drivers side perch that is used on a P/S setup. Try the junkyard for any 73-79 model donor truck. You will have to remove the perch, but the motor mount, to my best memory is the same. Not a big deal to do. The perch will be canted to allow for the bigger steering box. Good Luck!
Dave, Scamardo is correct. The issue is not in the engine, for the mount remains the same on the block.
The perch in trucks without the Ford (Saginaw) PS box occupies the same space as the PS box, so you either need to cut the original perch or replace it with a later one.
Once you see the correc perch in a truck with the Ford box, you will instantly understand.
With all the salvage runs made in getting these trucks in order should have noticed the different perch requirement. Better late than never. Looks like may need to pull, or at least lift motor to accomplish. Just put the other truck together, will take a break for awhile. It will give me time to decide whether to have column shortened to accomodate the 3 speed, or install FMX/C6 which i have the column for. Would prefer to go w/ C6 but if recall banjo, during my infancy stage of salvage runs i was the idiot who removed the FMX thinking it was a C6. There was a positive outcome in that i also removed the column to later find it had already been shortened by the previous owner.
Anyhow, thank you guys for the input.

Eric, am in constant state of flux when it comes to the upgrades. On 1/2 price sale at salvage yard acquired couple of Bendix boxes, and extra Ford box. On the truck where the upgrade was complete, went with the Ford box because decided to install headers. Did not have to do anything with the column because of the 4 speed and used the shorter shaft from the column previously mentioned. With the truck intend to upgrade next, the previous owner had installed headers so think am stuck w/ the Ford box, and because 3 on column the perch and column will need to be changed. Have an extra 3 speed column so will get an estimate on cost of shortening then decide whether to wait to install auto tranny or go the quik route and just deal w/ the upgrade.

Although it may be true that nothing's impossible, installing headers with a Bendix box is pretty close to it. On the positive side, I like to think of the money I'm unable to spend on headers!
Eric
In all honesty, did not intend to purchase headers for the 302. Kinda checking around had the stock sys. just about installed when a pair of used Hooker long tube comp. were being auctioned on ebay. Went w/ the start bid of $31 and there were no other bids, was really surprised. Suspect everyone else knows something about those headers that i don't. If ever decide to sell on ebay i would put a little effort in cleaning item, and never put on auction over a holiday weekend. Must admit, had to put considerable time into cleaning, etching, and painting. So with shipping and paint, etc. total of around $50. Don't want to think about labor.

Can you tell me a little more about cutting the drivers side engine stand? I dumped my donor without removing the engine stands, not realizing that the drivers side would be needed to convert to later (1976) power steering gear. Any help would be appreciated.
