Unhappy Puzzling E4od

Hello everyone,

This forum is impressive, and I hope you can help me.

I have a '93 F-350 Diesel with the e4od. I had the tranny rebuilt, including Solonoid pack, Superior shift kit, torque converter. It is acting strange now. In 1st gear stays in 1st, second gear goes straight to 2nd, Drive starts in 1st and will not upshift, reverse seems fine.

I have had a computer analysis done and it shows 4 problems, all of them solonoid related (such as reverse solonoid failure, 1st gear solonoid failure, etc.)

I have also replaced the computer, there was no difference, so I guess that wasn't it --

The guy who did the Computer analysis thing, is suspiciuos that it is the speed sensor on the differential, or the electric switch on the shift selector on the tranny. We can't imagine that the new solonoid pack is bad, and if it is it seems that only one soloniod would possibly be bad. We suspect plug ins and wires, and are pursuing that now.

Any insight, ideas would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

David

you might check the mlp/tr sensor on the driverside of the trans. see if there is moisture in it, if there is replace it and recheck

if you are in manual first gear the trans will stay in first. in manual second it will start in second and stay in second. in drive it should shift up through the gears starting with first

PonyRacer,

Great, I thought that second was to start in second and was no problem, but was not sure.

I will go out and look for that sensor that you mentioned now. What does mlp/tr stand for, or what is it's function?

Thanks

Ponyracer,

I just went out and looked for a sensor on the drivers side. I don't see anything. I have removed the electric multi position shift selector switch (This is my description) from the drivers side, is that what you are talking about?

Thanks

manual lever position/transmission range sensor

yes if it was the switch behind the shift lever then that is the sensor.
was there any, at all, moisture in side it or the wiring connector? if there was replace it and put dielectric gel inside the connector when installing the new one. the gel is available at the parts store.

the other thing that could cause this is the throttle sensor going bad or being out of adjustment

PonyRacer,

The mlp/tr seems ok by looking at it. It is rivited shut so can't open. I will replace that tomorrow as well.

Sorry not to mention. I did test and adjust the TP Sensor and is perfect.

Any other ideas?

thanks

Control module plug

Check the plug on the passenger side of the tranny, I had the same problems and realized the plug which isnt polarized, will fit in either way. Take it out and visually inspect pin locations with a dental mirror
