a few more questions on this
ok, now i checked those links and i can say they have been the most helpful ive seen so far, so thanks for that. the only thing now that is confusing me is the close and wide ratio thing. im not too sure what that means. i also posted another thread in the rear end category about my 9 inch. i dont know where the id tags are and i dont know how to tell what gearing it has...the only thing i checked to see if anyone can tell by this is for every time the back tire rotates exactly 10 times, the driveline (from the differential) turns approximately 15 times....keep the info coming, this is great stuff

ok first(BLOCKING THE FRONT WHEELS!!!!!!!)
lift the rear completely off the ground
?when turning 1 of your tires what happens to the other one ??
mark your yoke one side
how many turns to get your yoke to stop on the same spot and how many turns did the yoke make
but if i assume the other wheel turns opposite(open diff) itworks to 3.00:1 ring & pinion

sweetness
ok, so the tires seem to spin completely independently, which i suppose is a good thing. the other one doesnt spin at all when one is turning (it is able to be spun, i just didnt do it)...so yeah i would think that each side turning 15 times would be 30:10 or 3.00:1...anyway, with that, what kind of 4th gear would i want in a toploader to be able to cruise down the highway around 2500rpm? i was thinking somewhere around a .7 or .8 but most toploaders come with a 1.1 4th..i think. info on this? thanks
