Went to Harold's junkyard yesterday. Found a low milage wrecked 86 Bronco xlt. It had a beautiful instrament cluster with a trip odometer and a tach. To answer an earlier post, the tach is plug and play, just make sure you have the printed circuit from the tach cluster. It looks and works great in the Bronco.
I also got the instament cluster bezel, radio bezel and cruise horn pad all in the nice woodgrain finish. They really dressed up the F250. Harold only charged 106.25 for everything.
Poor John_hill was with me and got a similar horn pad with a not so good finish and was charged 37.50. The price all depends on Harolds mood and if he remembers you coming there before.
I just bought the same Cluster you did a month or so ago back. It's like you just stated a plug-n-play deal. Nice to watch your RPM's in a clean installed factory Tac. over the big aftermarket Tac's ain't it? Plus the trip meter makes judging trips and adding MPG much easier. I get lil over 175Miles per tank going by it. But my 86 has a small tank rarely holds over 10g at fill-ups. I came out of the yard then with a Dent free full power door, Aftermarket tube grill, 2 80-86 Factory Tac clusters and a fe new looking full rubber floor mats to replace the hard to clean carpet all for $50.
Glad it was a good trip for you. Really wish I could have made it but just not a good weekend for me. Maybe in another week or two you might be ready for a return trip. Did you happen to see any decent 73-79s while you were there?
Any certan pieces your looking for from a 73-79? I've got a 78 and 79 So i keep up with yards that has em. One has 6 or 7 73-79's they are fairly clean trucks.
Looking for front springs, possibly left front fender, factory ac components (ducts, airbox, controls, condensor, evap, dryer, etc...), engine wiring, interior stuff in good shape such as dash bezel, door panels, etc... Would like a split bench from up to a '96 that I could put in. Eventually would like to find a donor 4x4 chassis to convert 2wd to 4x4 or even consider as eventually another project (shhhh, don't tell my wife...).
Optimally, I could find a yard with several trucks sitting that I could go and look over and get some ideas of what I can get. Where is the one that you mentioned? Brokebronco has recommended Harold's in Briggs but I have yet to be able to make it out there. Keep in mind I am in Austin so El Paso would be a little too far to go.
I'm up near Dallas. If it's not to far for you I believe you can get most all the parts you list off one truck in this yard. Not sure whats under there hoods have yet needed anything under em to look.
I just pulled most of the A/C stuff out from under the hood of my 78 4x4. lines and all look to be in great shape. I thought about trying to charge the system. But when I replaced the timing chain I didn't mess with instasll the a/c parts part. My 79 Bronco still has Ice cold factory air, but it's stayin in there.
It's still here for now but I just sold a 77 F250 Ex-cab camper spl. 460 with all that stuff.
You need reg, ex or crew cab frame? If he still has it the guy who's buying my 77 F250 had a mid 70's 3/4 4x4 frame.
TXQUAD, which salvage yard near Dallas are you speaking of or is this your back yard? I would need a regular cab 4x4 chassis if I were to use the cab and bed I have now. Do you know if that is a rolling chassis or just the frame rails?
It's called Black Land Wrecking. No it's not my Back ysard but I do have a few things in it..LOL If the under hood A/C Brackets and such off a 351m/400 will work on your truck, Let me know and we'll work out a deal, on the compressure, Brackets, hoses and condencer. If I had help I'd even pull the ducts, controls and such for to just have heat since I only use my 78 as a pull truck once in awhile.
I believe it was a rolling chassie with a leaf sprung FrntD44/D60 rear. It is a reg. cab. But I can find out for sure if you like?
Edit: The 4x4 Frame was a 74 Highboy frame, it has the D44 HD drum brakes, Tcase, had a FE in it. No rearend but springs and all still there. I looked it up. This was how it was the last I talked to him. I'll ask when I see him next if still thisway or if he got rid of it.

Really not a huge rush but if you get a chance to ask about that chassis, let me know. Also would need to find out what trannys will work. Right now have a FMX behind a 302 that I could swap in if it would match up with the Tcase or may have to look for other tranny options. Like I said, I am in really no big hurry as there are alot of things to figure out before I make up my mind as to which direction I want to go with this thing.
IMHO Since you have a 302 your best bet to get a 4x4 tranny would be to look in the 80-86 Truck/Bronco's with a 302,351w or 300 I-6 for the 4x4 C6. Thru the 70's you had a choice of the FE 360/390's, 351m/400's (both wrong tranny bolt pattern) Very rarefind the 300 I-6. or look in the early Bronco's pre-78 for there tranny. As for the Tcase Ford used the same round bolt pattern on them all. So they'll bolt fron one tranny to another. Now the FMX I have no clue about. Since your in no hurry it'll give you time to gather to build it the way you want, get the parts cheap as they come your way.
rfxj3, we need to talk. I have ac parts from my 77 just taking up space and other misc. parts. Also I have a close friend who is parting out his 78. It's Wed morning about 5am. I'm at work right now and will be off at 6. If you are interested in the parts I have please give me a call when you get a chance. I'm a night shifter so if you don't get me please leave a message. My cell is 663-6150 and my name is Cody. My shop is in Oak Hill. Give me a call if you are interested.
TXQuad - Thanks, I will still get ahold of you if/when I can head up to Dallas.
79F350 - I will email you later to discuss the frame in more detail. May take a few weeks.
Rubberduck (Cody) - Are you going to be around this weekend? I wouldn't mind swinging by sometime to look at what is available to help me plan what I need to do. Let me know what works for you via email (click on my username and select the send email option). If I haven't heard anything by tomorrow, I'll try your cell phone late in the afternoon and hopefully won't wake you.
