I HAVE A 1981 F150 6 CYL INLINE 4 SPEED MANUAL (2 PART TRANNY) . I need to swap out engines due to excessive blowby. I have found same type engine 350.00 w/ warranty ( I do not know how many miles yet). Anyway, garages are asking approx. 600-1000 for teh labor alone 12 hrs of shop time. Any ideas how to do this swap more economically? I can travel if needed. Are these engines difficult to do by yourself? I have never replaced an engine.
He could have meant that the tranny was separate from the bell housing - or that it might be a 4WD and he was talking about the transfer case - I don't know.
if you've got a way to lift the motor out, do it yourself. A 300 I-6 would be a easy first learn motor since it's a simple motor. just get a good shop manual you should be able to pull it off
