tempory power loss

Cool tempory power loss

My 97 7,3 smoothly looses power(like I am letting up on the gas) then idles rough. turning the engine off and restarting fixes it untill the next time (might be 10min or 10 days) The fuel filter and regulator screen are clean and turbo boost is 10lbs+...Anybody been through this its driving me nuts.

Found this old thread and did not see any responses. I am having the same problem. Did you ever get it solved?

Sounds like CPS may be making noises like it wants to go on permanant vacation.... I'd probably start there if you keep a spare in the glovebox...fast and easy to change...10mm socket and wiring connetion.

I happened to have one in the glovebox and also had a temp code for the CPS but that didnt fic the problem. Also the problem is getting more frequent.

This would point to the TPS (Throtle Position Sensor) and IVS (Idle Validation Switch) both part of the Go Pedal Assembly http://www.dieselsite.com/index.asp?...PROD&ProdID=65

Now that Allen mentions that, it's entirely possible... my ole ps didnt just go away... it developed flat spots as you accelerated... go...dead spot/idle... push the go pedal a little more and it would come out of the idle and run like a scalded dog.... it got to where it would hit the idle and stay there til you shut it off and restarted it..... really screwy and I thought I was gonna have to walk home a couple of times.... that was on a 94 PSD. I've had two... the 99 I never had engine issues with till it got really high up on miles. Someone else may know if they changed TPS and IVS somewhere in those years to something more reliable...I remember hearing that that was a fairly common failure in early PSD's
