how the heck do you get to that? I bought a book on my ranger and it says not all rangers have this, that in many cases only california epa has this. The guys at the parts store plugged a computer in and it returned and error code that said camshaft position sensor...... do I have one or not? My truck sputters sometimes when I drive. I have to push the clutch in and give it more gas. It does not happen all the time. Also, when I start the truck it clunks. I have to try a couple of times to get it started. Then sometimes it starts just fine.
Take a look at the tech info sticky & click on "2.3 DIS ignition system diagnostic" I havent looked at it myself, but it will probably tell you what you need to know. If you dont have a distributor, you do have a cam sensor.Good luck with it.
I have the same problem.. Hooked it up to the computer, said the cam shaft sensor. Can't find the thing in the engine. says it is on the oil pump, can't find it. Help?

Well I have a 2000, not that I know what I'm nescessarily talking about but the one on my 2.5L is located on the drivers side right next to the harmonic balancer. Bolts on with one bolt. Very easy to get to. Maybe the 2.3 is similar?
