My bro-in-law has a '66 3/4 ton with a flatbed, 352 and four-speed. He pulled the tranny out and brought it to me today, needs some work. I need to order some parts, does anyone have a good source online for manual truck transmission parts? Here are the numbers as they appear on the tag bolted to the side access cover:
C9TA 7003 V F168
12 1 69 435
Judging by the C9 in the first line, this trans has been replaced by a later one. Is this a New Process 435, a Borg Warner T18, or something else? Appreciate any help you can give me on this. -TD
1) Where is reverse in the shift pattern? To the right ALL THE WAY and up is T-18, I forget where NP 435 is, but its somewhere else for sure.
2) NP has an aluminium top shifter cover.
3) T-18 is cast. Early t-18 may have t-98 numbers on the shifter cover somewhere, later should have t-18 Wire brush usually needed to find all the details.
After I posted this I was looking around the 'net some more, and I found a site that explained some of the differences, and I noticed the bit about the aluminum top cover, so on the basis of that, I assumed it is a NP435. I found a place selling parts and rebuild kits, and they look right in the pics. I can't say where reverse is on this thing, as I've never driven or ridden in it and I don't have it here, it's still in the back of my bro-in-law's truck. Thanks for the info, I'll go have a look at Inland Truck. -TD
My 4 speed tranny (code F) was listed as a Warner t-18 and the reverse is all the way to the right and down. I can't say that I've seen a reverse to the right and UP?
I have driven older trucks where the reverse is up and to the right. Not sure what tranny it was but I do remember driving them. Seems as though they were sixties models though.
