My SES light came on and the O/D off light started flashing so I went to Auto Zone and this is the code that came up (P0473-Torque Converter Circuit Electrical) Help please. I dont want to do any more damage by driving.I have a 2001 F-150 4.6 with a 4R70
Hi and welcome to the forum
My manual doesn't show a P0473. Could it be a P0743?
A P0743 means TCC (Torque Convertor Clutch) solenoid circuit fails to provide voltage drop across solenoid. Circuit open or shorted or PCM driver failure during on-board diagnostic.
If it's shorted the TCC will probably always be engaged and the engine would stall at low speeds. If it's open the Torque Convertor wont lock up. You should be able to notice that when you drive it if you hold it at a steady speed, say 40 mph, and press the brake pedal, with your left foot, just hard enough for the brake lights to come on without slowing the truck, you should feel the TC unlock (engine will rev up a bit), when you let the brake off the TC should lock back up and the rpm will go down again.
If that doesn't work you probably have an open circuit in the wiring to the TCC, likely a broken or disconnected wire inside the transmission pan, or a bad TCC solenoid.
Usually if your o/d light is flashing it is your mlp sensor on the tranny. Is you abs light on to? i have seen where the abs light is on and the o/d light flashes it is the differential pressure sensor / r.a.b.s. sensor in the top of the differential but i have seen where these sensors wont set a check engine light
Thanks for the info Racerguy. What information you gave me coinciding with someone elses info on the 4R70w plugs inside the pan going bad I think I will be able to find the problem easy enough. I am going to drop my pan as soon as my truck cools. I'll let you know.
