I don't bother with miles per gal, it's a truck!!!
I don't think that anyone should expect even 20mp on a LD truck of any sort with a V8 but then again you shouldn't expect 8mpg on an unloaded truck, its a clear indication that something isn't right. If they advetised the new F-150 as getting 8mpg I would have laughed in their faces and walked out.

Just bought a 04 Lariat Super Cab, 4 x 4, tow package and 3.73LS axle. Now I've only got 425 miles on it as of today, but last week I left the house with 145 miles on the truck and made a 161 mile run up and back the Garden State Pkw(pool table flat) About 15 miles of the trip was off the Pkw getting to the boat(I'm a Marine Surveyor) and back to the Pkw. Before I left I topped the 27 gal tank off(stuffed it). When I got back to the same gas station in the same position/pump all I could put in it was 8.2 gal of fuel. That's 19.6mpg.. Granted I was taking it really easy on the new engine and running between 55-65mph, but I couldn't believe it....just getting out of a 88 Bronco with an OPEC 351 in it.. Now, I just did the last 120 miles around town stepping on it pretty good and burned 8.2 gals. That's still 14.6mpg... Same station/pump. Now either I'm getting more fuel than the pump is saying or you guys are getting less. Something's not right here..?? Next time around I'm going to a different gas station..
The Truck was built 6/04 in Norfolk Va. Had 3 miles on it when I picked it up.. Wedge blue/tan accent, tan leather, 6.5ft, roof...

Fatman, I thought this thread was about robinwood's gas problems, not "So would you settle for 57% of your advertised HP, Torque or towing capacity?". I do agree he is getting rotten mpg, and he should take it to a dealer and straighten the problem out. As far as your question is concerned, IT'S OUT OF LINE...I have children your age, and don't take wise crap from them.

I am extrememly happy with my MPG (Lariat Screw 4x4, 5.4 3.73). I took a trip to Fort Worth from Austin last week. On the trip up to FW my computer said I was getting 19.5 mpg at 74mph. On the way home I got stuck in a construction delay and it took 1.5 hours to go 5 miles. My computer dropped to 18 mpg. I drove to work the next 2 days and upon filling I hand calculated 17.5 mpg for the tank and the computer showed 17.8. I have hand calculated all of my tanks (30 gallon) and am averaging 16+ on 50/50 hiway/city. I couldn't be happier.

I've got the same truck (3700 miles now), and I'm gonna do a real close controlled test for a while; the info center read out said 14.2 after reset it after purchase....so that's for the whole 3600 miles app.
I did a fill up today at 190 miles and used a bit over 19 gallons...htat's 10 folks which is worse than my F250 was. I generally drive like the grandpa I am, so I'm not doin hard starts, stops, etc. I better be getting the 14 I thought and 16 on the highway....I've not been on a trip yet.

Give it some time...I think your mileage will pick up a bit. When I first got my Lariat SCrew I got poor gas milage as well...I was lucky to get 300 miles on a 30 gallon tank of gas. Now I'm getting 360 - 380 depending on how I drive and when I fill up..Seems like I'm generally filling it when it needs 22 - 25 gallons...I've almost got 12,000 miles on it.
I read a post a few months ago where someone mentioned that driving 65mph consumes 10% more fuel than at 55mph and 75mph consumes 15% more...those numbers may not be exact, but it gets the general idea across...the harder you drive the more fuel you'll suck because the truck is tuned for power and efficiency at the 55mph mark.
I recently took a long interstate trip where the cruise was set at 78mph. I got about 17.1 - 17.4 mpg according to my message center computer. Knocking around town and on shorter trips I'm somewhere in the 14 - 15 mpg range.
At the end of the day we're buying the truck because it looks cool and we like to drive trucks...if we wanted fuel efficiency we'd buy a car.

problem with the driver
BMWhitesel, I do have the limited slip. However I don't think the truck has any problems other than the driver and the area we drive. I have a habit of using the available throttle, and the terrain here is very hilly. Are your roads flat? If not, do you get better than 18 on the highway? I took it easy this week and was able to squeeze 17MPG out of my commuting.
