please help me. the idle on my 90 BII is high all the time. it's taking me longer to stop at lights. and sometimes when i do stop the idle goes from 1100 to almost 500 in a split second. i've cleaned the idle motor and still get the same thing. would replacing it help or is there something else i can check?
Check for a throttle cable binding up on you. they are notorius for doing this. The idle control also is notorious for this after carbon builds up in the hole and pintle. And as Mr shorty said, vacuum leaks will give you a high idle as well.
Check the throttle for a smooth transaction from open to close. The actual plate might be binding as well.
I know this might sound stupid, Look at the gas pedal. If you have the knobby floor mats, the pedal might be getting stuck on the mat. There are so many customers coming in with this same symptom at my job. Majority turns out to be the floormats contacting the gas pedal.
Keep us posted and if you find out what is causing this let us all know. Good luck!
i have yet to check the vaccum lines but i think i'm going to change the idle motor first (it needs changing anyway). then, if it's still idling high i will check the vac lines.
i put one of those cheap computer things off ebay (which i dont recomend), and when i had it in idle it was idling about 2600 rpm, and when id try to switch into drive or anything like that it would die from having getting flooded, it was gay, and if i was to stop at a light or something, it would die, if this helps anyone, then thats great, if not then you know about the cheap ebay modules
IAC - Idle Air Control
It is the cylinder type object that is mounted on the intake right up next to the throttle body. These tend to carbon up over time and stick on you giving you a high idle.
i've checked that and the everything else suggested here and nothing...i think i'm just going to change the IAC and see if that helps...i put the code scanner on it and it puts out the IAC code every time
