Looking at 99' Mountaineer
Hi Folks,
Don't know where to go for Mountaineer info, but I need some quick questions. I'm looking at a 99' with a 4.0 litre with SOHC, 5 speed automatic. Its got 60,500 miles and the dealer wants $18, 000. I could probably get him down to $17, 500 or $17,000 maybe. It seems to run nice...lots of power....only downshifted once at 80 mph going over a steep hill thru the canyon here. My 2000 F150 4x4 w 5.4 litre shifts totally into third on the same hill. So I was impressed. 4x4 works but makes a little "groan" when turning tight corners slow. Doesn't hop to bad. Its in fine shape as far as use goes. Very clean inside and out. Anything else I should look for? Any known problems? What kind of mileage could I get with a K&N filter and synthetic fluids? What tricks for best mileage? Let me know guys....I'm kinda anxious. It's for my wife. Could it pull a tent trailer with a canoe on top? Mainly for my wife and her commuting tho. I want to hear good and bad.
