Clunking Noise???
Just thought i give it shot here I've had my lift in my truck since april (6"inch all spring lift) but i noticed the last few days there is a clunking noise whenever i go to take off or when i go from like drive to reverse also when i go to stop sounds like it is coming from the rear. I think what it is the axle is twisting because the springs are starting to break in might need traction bars anyone have any ideas???thanx

Springs typically need more time than a few months to break in. Unless you've been hitting the trails pretty hard or towing some serious weight. Psd and 6 inch lift is a no brainer for ladder bars/traction bars. However, check every nut and bolt on the rear end to make sure something isn't coming loose. Check shocks mounts, "u" bolts etc.. I've got 11" of lift and I need traction bars but i don't hear clunking, just creaking. Clunking is not good but more than likely it's something very simple. Just keep checking it out and be careful. I like to crawl around under the truck when i hear a noise and just investigate. Always better to be safe than sorry, goodluck. Richard
P.S. nice looking truck I looked at your pics.

If you are running a two piece drive shaft it could be the spline where they fit together. If it does not have grease it will bind then let loose with a clunk. Set the brake or block the wheels, mark the drive shaft, drop it, take it apaart and grease the spline, put it back together, and reinstall. The boot has a compression cramped ring that is hard to get back tight if you do not have the crampers for it, but can be done.

My ex-boss had this same problem with his 99 after a few miles it clunked and clunked. The dealership rebuilt the rearend twice--checked every bolt and nut and never could find the problem. Took it to another dealership on the FIRST dealership's recommendation and they found it in less than 10 minutes--seems the "BIG" dealership didn't know about greasing the driveshaft splines either. It is the easiest place and probably the most overlooked to start. You'll know immediately if it's the problem!!
