Need Help

I have a question about my 94 Ranger 4.0 automatic. the transmission slips trying to shift into 2nd gear in drive. I read somewhere to check the modulator. I looked for the modulator and was not able to find it. I would like for someone to inform me of where it is or suggest some other problem or solution. Also, the check engine light comes on for several seconds while going up a certain hill. Any suggestions? thanks.

first place I would check is on the passenger side of the tranny. That's where mine was on my 94 aero.

looks like a vacuum actuator, should be a short vacuum hose running to it.

Could also be a vacuum leak. Put a guage on the engine to see how it looks. Try pulling the codes to see if there is anything there.
