I putting a 351m in my '79 Bronc to replace the 400 in it till I can afford to build the 400. My question is the balance on the flywheel (the 351m came out of an ltd, my bronc is 4-spd.) Will the flywheel replace the flexplate with out any problems and also will the rear sump oil pump pickup work ok. I'm pretty sure I won't have any problems just want to double check. thanx.
I just installed a 351m out of a car into a F-350 4x4 Ford that had an original 400, with 4 speed. We had to change the oil pan and pickup tube cause there different for a 4x4. I did use the flywheel off the 400 on the 351m, but didnt think of anything about it till now. Maybe someone else can chime in?
they have the same factory counter balance as long as you aren't trying to spin them to the sky, then you will be ok, it shouldn't be anymore out of balance than it was before, so you should be fine, and switching pans, and pickup tubes is not a problem just remember to get the bolt out of the 400 that has the piece on it to bolt the pickup tube too for support.
