I have a steering column from a 71 camper special F-250,and it is an automatic. I would like to know if a steering wheel from a 69 Three speed
standard will work on the automatic column. And will it trip the signal cam
off.I was told that the steering wheels are all the same, I just want to
check with you guy's to make sure!
Thanks
Thanks fomoko1 for replying. That would be the easy way to find out but the standard
wheel is the one I don't have. I am looking to buy it over the internet so I would like to know for sure. So if anybody knows for sure please reply, I don't want to be stuck with a wheel that won't work.
As far as I can remember there should be no difference in the wheel from a standard to an auto, just in the later years the design changed. Too bad you can not borrow a wheel to try. Where are you located?
If your not in a big, big hurry the next time, I go to the loco pick&pull boneyard i'll try too check this out for you. There's a guy that goes there and for some reason pulls off all the 67-72 steering wheels and just leaves all the parts there.. I've been looking for a cherry 71-72 type wheel.. those new wheels are alittle on the high side for me...my 2cents

Thanks guy's for the reply
Orich that would be great if you could pass the info. on I will keep watching for your post.
Fomoko1 thanks again for your reply, I was just wanted to be sure. I just didn't want to be stuck with a wheel that won't work. Maybe I will have to take the plunge and try it. I am located in southern Ontario. Quite away's from you.
Well guys,I got close to what you wanted to know about the steeling wheels.I chased
around to 5 boneyards today. I found a 1977 f250 pulled the steering wheel and the blinker switch was broken and it was missing some parts. Then pulled the steering wheel
from a 1968 f250 and blinker switch was also screwed up. Any way The 1968 was a 2 spoke wheel did fit on the 1977 column and looked like it should work find. Maybe in a few weeks they'll have added more trucks. Ps not many 66-72 trucks in the boneyard
any more. Parts are getting harder to find these days.. my 2cents

Thanks Orich
Here's what I found out. From 67 to 70 they had 3 spoke wheels,maybe i am wrong!
But they are able to swap wheels. From 71 to72 they 2 spoke wheels.
The 71 camper special F-250 that i am looking to swap the column with my 67 had a 2
spoke wheel, i think its the original wheel. I want to use the 71 column and a 3 spoke
wheel.
I measured from the blinker to the end of the shaft on the 67 it is 2" and the 71 measured at I guess 2 1/4" , I didn't have a wheel puller with me so i did what i could.
When i get out there again i will take a puller with me and then i will finally know. But if
anybody knows for sure please post a reply! also correct me if i am wrong on my findings so far.
Thanks again orich for taking the time in the bone yard to help me out. When i go to those place i spend hour looking at everything!!!!!
I'm only gussing here but, I think the column on 71-72up is longer with lesser dished spoked wheels. I see use a deeper dished spoked 69 wheel won't that put it way to close to your chest and maybe look find of odd. hmm Ps on your finding the 71-up has a non-threaded tip about 1/4'' area where the 70 & down doesn't. my 2cents

Hi I just put a 77 steering column in my 72 F100 with power steering and
automatic. The onle difference is the wireing. Took sume pictures of the
two columns and wheels for those that are looking to put one in there truck.
Still have to work on the wireing there are 2 more wires on a 77 column
than the 72.
dddk, I just thought if you find that the 3 spoke wheel is to close too you then check out the early van's, there not as deep dished wheels on them. my 2 cents
