door tag code?
I am restoring/modifying my truck and was reading my decal to see what the original color was, trying to figure out axle ratio before I swap the front axle and convert to 4WD from my existing 2WD etc. It's an 86 F-150 XLT 302, AOD
I have axle code 19 thus from the post before mine, I guess I have a 3.55 ratio. I also have a Type code of 1. Is this "normal" spinning or limited slip?
Also, the color code on my truck has two. One is 7B which apparently is "Shadow Blue" but it also has a 1G to the right which seems to be "Light Smoke".
Was my truck originally two tone? I searched the web and couldn't find anywhere that listed Light Smoke paint and the only Shadow Blue that came up was for interior vinyl paint.
Anyone know how to find more info on paints complete with swatches or a picture of trucks with original paint schemes etc. This truck needs paint due to Sun fadeing to the point where it shows the waxing swirls and it would be great if I could make it look like it did before someone threw on this shoddy job that is on it now.
I am military and have leave scheduled in a few weeks and was planning on stripping it down, sanding it down and either having it shot or doing it myself.
As long as I am asking lots of questions, anyone know how much paint it will take to shoot an extended cab 86 F-150 XLT with shell? 2 Gallons or 3? The last vehicle I painted was a Triumph GT6 that took one quart and I had tons left over. This truck is bigger than a bread box though. -gggggggg-
Thanks in advance,
Lee

From my 84 Shop manuals, 26 is a Dana axle with a 4050 weight rating and 3.55 gears, from my 85 owners manual, it's a Ford axle of the same rating and ratio.
Either way, it's an oddball axle. Some sort of light duty Dana axle, that may have been replaced by the extremely rare 8 lug 8.8.
Edit: Here's the list from my 85 owners manual, the 8.8 and 9' are there, as are Both Dana and Sterling(Ford) axles for the heavier trucks:
