I am pretty sure that I saw front mount hitches at etrailer.com. I know that they had one for my 97 Mountaineer... they have a nice search tool that allows you to enter your vehicle info and tells you what fits. Try looking there.

PS. I am not affiliated with them, just a guy that ordered something from there.

your truck might be to old. when vehicles reach a certain age aftermarket companies stop making items for them. you could try a local welder.

littlefoot -

JCWhitney sells a step bumper box hitch (ZX037668U) for $38.99 - maybe a welder could figure out a way to make your front hitch from it.

measure the distance between your frame rails and try to find a vehicle with the same dimensions. you might have to call the manufacturer to find out more info. if you dont want to deal with a phone call you could try e mailing them. good luck.

You can also try Reese Hitches website: www.reeseprod.com . I'm surprised etrailer doesn't have it. They have just about everything else. I've ordered from them too, good place to deal with.

I would think an '80-86 truck would have the same front frame dimensions as an '87-'96, the suspensions interchange...

They have adjustable frame mount hitches that will fit onto almost anything. Something from 34-50 inches wide. They are advertised in the JCW truck catalog.

What I would suggest is getting 8" 3/16 C-Channel, cutting a length to fit inside your frame rails, bolt it to the frame rail with 1/2 inch grade 8 bolts, and bolt a receiver box for a step and tow bumper to that. Good to go! If you plan ahead, you can mount two two hooks under the channel on the other side of the frame and use the same bolts for both.

Warn makes front receivers for these trucks, for the purpose of their receiver mount winch setups. They're rated to handle the loading from a 9000 LB winch...

If you look in my pictures, you can see how I made one. I used a hitch I got for free, and cut it down to fit inside the framerails, and then had plates fit over the ends that bolt it to the frame. This way it is removeable if I ever think it was a bad idea. My friend had one made by a welding shop for his bronco, and they used a hitch from an s10 I believe. They welded side plates on, and then mounted it to the frame on the outside. The easiest way would be the warn option if they make one. I couldn't find a front hitch for mine, so that is why I made it. Good luck, Ted
